He is facing bankruptcy after failing to sell a property to clear his tax bill, which he had been given until January to repay in full.

Bill, TV’s longest serving soap star, first appeared in the ITV soap in 1960, was previously declared bankrupt in 1999.

Roache was hit with a massive £588,015.18 bill from HMRC in 2018, after a tribunal ruled he participated in “a tax-avoidance arrangement”.

But the High Court papers recently obtained by The Sun claim he has coughed up just £41,666.65 so far.

The 91-year-old has played Ken Barlow in Corrie since 1960, and is rumoured to have signed a £250,000 deal with the show in December last year.

Roache is set to fight the case in the High Court next month, and could be facing bankruptcy.
