But as 's Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward sat down with Lorraine Kelly today, they looked like they'd barely aged a day since releasing their debut album four decades ago.

Bananarama was originally made up of Sara and Keren, both 62, and Siobhan Fahey.

Siobhan, now 65, left the group in 1988 and was briefly replaced by Jacquie O'Sullivan until 1991, when Sara and Keren continued the group as a duo.

Sara and Keren were on Lorraine to celebrate 40 years in music, and Sara insisted they're having a "better time" now than in the eighties.

More on eighties stars

She said: "We're releasing our own music on our own label, we choose what we do. The eighties were great fun but you're kind of on a rollercoaster. Now you have more time to do what you want to do."

Keren added that they don't feel under pressure about chart positions these days, after releasing their most recent studio album in 2022.

The group are known for hits including Cruel Summer, I Heard a Rumour and Venus, which reached the top spot in the US.

Sara and Keren, who are childhood friends, previously addressed Siobhan's exit from Bananarama.

While promoting their 2020 memoir Really Saying Something, Keren told : "I think [in the book] we talk about Siobhan quite honestly.

"It wasn’t great when we split but we’ve talked about it since and you think, ‘Why was that such a big deal?’”

Asked if Siobhan might have felt put out because of her and Sara's close friendship, Keren added: "Because Sara and I were such good friends beforehand, Siobhan may have seen it like that, but we were very much a trio."

After leaving Bananarama Siobhan founded the group Shakespeares Sister alongside Marcella Detroit.
