A source told The Sun: "Bosses were desperate to sign up Vito - his popularity with audiences is obvious after he won Strictly with Ellie Leach.

“He's funny and charming, and it doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eye too.

“As for Vito, he was flattered to be asked as he has only been on Strictly for a couple of years so this is a big deal for him and introduces him to an even wider audience.”

Vito won the last series of the show alongside Corrie star Ellie.

But he sparked fears he wouldn’t be dancing for very long after he admitted he dreamt of being a judge.

He reassured fans it wouldn’t be for some time though, telling : “But I feel like, you know I’m still at the beginning. I just came from Italy so I don’t know when, but I mean they’re like the best example to follow.

"So it would be a pleasure one day. But now let’s keep our feet on the ground and I’m still in my second year!”

Vito will be taking on a series of well-known faces, as they are judged by Gregg Wallace and John Torode.

The Sun previously told how Jake Quickenden, 35, known for stints on I'm A Celebrity and Glow Up judge Dominic Skinner have also signed up.

It follows the signing of This Morning stars Craig Doyle and Christine Lampard.

The Sun also revealed Sex Education star Eshaan Akbar and Line of Duty legend Rochenda Sandall will be appearing in the new series.

Other names said to have signed up include Ian ‘H’ Watkins from pop band Steps, presenter Edith Bowman plus Radio 1Xtra’s Snoochie Shy.

From the world of reality TV is Diane Carson from The Traitors, plus Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby and new Gladiator Nitro, AKA Harry Aikines-Aryeetey.

The stars will battle it out to become the 2024 champion after Opera singer Wynne Evans was crowned last year.

While a date is yet to be confirmed, the 19th series is due to be screened later this year on BBC.
