The beloved franchise, which hit cinemas in the early noughties, starred Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway.

Its first film grossed a whopping $163 million at the US box office while the second pulled in $134 million.

Julie, now 88, played the role of the Queen regent of Genovia who reconnected with her estranged granddaughter Mia (Anne Hathaway).

Over the course of the two flicks Julie's character prepared Mia for the crown.

However, it appears Disney have halted plans for another visit to Genovia.

Appearing on US show Today, Mary Poppins star Julie revealed the plans had been 'shelved'.

She explained: “It’s quite a long time now since the two Diaries were done, and I’m not sure, but sometimes it’s best to leave a good thing alone.

"I don’t like it when people milk and milk and milk the subject, you know, ‘til it’s dead.”

She continued to reveal 'dialogue' happened on a third movie but that “nothing had been realised”.

Julie added: “I think I may be wrong, but I think it’s been shelved now – I can’t be sure."

Anne Hathaway previously revealed she was up for reprising her role as Mia - including the original production team.

She told American broadcaster Andy Cohen: “I want to do it.

"Julie wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen.”
