A soap star has also confirmed they will be back to play their iconic role on the show

Now it has been confirmed that one of the men behind those episodes will be Steven Moffat, the programme’s ex-showrunner, adored by legions of devoted fans.

The 62-year-old, who gained an OBE for his work on the iconic show, will be back on the show having quit working on it more than seven years ago.

Steven has penned one of the show’s 2025 episode after coming back on board under show champion and legendary screenwriter Russell T. Davies’ leadership.

Russell first hired Steven onto the programme in 2005 and he continued to work there until the end of the tenth revival series.

Confirming that he was back on Doctor Who, Steven said: “Apologies to everyone I’ve very slightly misled – I am in fact writing an episode of the series of Doctor Who. Exactly like I said I never would. What can I tell you?

“There was begging, there was pleading but finally Russell agreed to let me have another go – so long as I got out of his garden.

“Working with old friends and a brand new Doctor I couldn’t be happier.”

It comes just days after it was confirmed that one of the show’s actors and a soap favourite would also be heading back to Doctor Who.

Bonnie Langford has left fans delighted as she announced she’s returning to the series this Spring.

The 59-year-old will reprise her role as Melanie ‘Mel’ Bush for Doctor Who‘s fourteenth series.

Bonnie, who previously starred as Carmel Kazemi in EastEnders, spoke about her return after 37 years to Alan Titchmarsh.

She told the presenter: “It’s so wonderful to be part of it – It’s BBC through and through but also it’s on Disney+ worldwide and it’s very exciting to be part of the show.”

Explaining her return, Bonnie said: “You see what happened – I’m in the new series [but] I had to drive a Vespa. It was hilarious.”

It comes as Doctor Who will return in May after Beeb bosses signed a £10million deal with Disney+.

Doctor Who will make its global premiere around the Whoniverse and for those in the UK on May 11.

For the very first time, the show will land with two episodes on BBC iPlayer at midnight before arriving on BBC One later that day.

The episodes will be followed by the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final.

Those outside the U.K. can also catch up on the Doctor and Ruby Sunday’s adventures as the show will drop on Disney+.

The new season features the return of Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor alongside Millie Gibson as companion Ruby Sunday after making their debuts on Christmas Day.
