Greg Rutherford reveals new health update after urgent surgery and nasty Dancing On Ice injury that saw him miss final
The star revealed the extent his injury this week after undergoing surgery
GREG Rutherford has told fans he is making progress following his shock Dancing On Ice injury.
The 37-year-old, who was paired with Vanessa James in the ITV show, had to pull out of the final earlier this month due to suffering an injury during rehearsals.
After sparking concern with a series of hospital pics, Greg shared a snap of himself looking happier and healthier today.
He wrote: “I’m up, showered and have a t-shirt on for the first time since surgery, progress.”
Greg was rushed to hospital when the accident happened and recently underwent surgery for it.
The retired athlete has since revealed what actually happened – explaining he slid through the legs of Brendyn Hatfield and Colin Grafton and tore his abdominal muscles.
He said: “I’ve been a bit busy and obviously just recovering from the initial injury before I have the surgery that I hadn’t actually got round to talking about it.
“Long story short, I leapt through the legs of Brendyn and Colin and managed to tear all of my abs as well as herniate.
“So I effectively gave myself a C-section.”
After his operation, Greg told fans: “Operation done. Recovery starts here.
“Thank you for all your messages. It was a slightly bigger op than originally hoped, but it’s all sorted.
“Surgeons really happy with his work and I’m excited to get fit again.
“But for the next few days I’m going to be very sore and doing a lot of nothing.”
Greg and his fiancé Susie decided not to talk about his injury in too much detail until he had seen a specialist and discovered the exact issue was.
The retired Olympian missed out on being crowned winner of Dancing On Ice 2024.
Coronation Street‘s Ryan Thomas won the competition this year.
The soap star insisted that his performance would have won after the gutted sportsman shared a clip of their routine online.
