A MASTERCHEF hopeful found themselves booted out of the contest after Gregg Wallace tore into his "scruffy" dish that failed to meet the show's brief.
It was the quarter final on the BBC contest and six hopefuls were hoping to advance to the next round.
Under the watchful eye of John Torode and Gregg Wallace, the contestants had to cook their way to the next round following a brief set for them by a very special guest.
Food critic Jay Rayner was on hand to tell the hopefuls that they had to create a pie but what it consisted of was up to them.
It saw the six contenders create both sweet and savoury options in order to impress the judges.
However, one contestant fell flat after his pie was rubbished in the kitchen and by viewers watching at home.

Pete had created a Vietnamese take on a steak pie with a spiced lemongrass and soy sauce beef stew topped with a rough puff pastry lid.
However, his decision to create purely a pastry lid rather than a fully enclosed pie ruffled a few feathers.
The judges didn't appear too thrilled by the decision as Gregg said to him: "The only pastry on your pie is on the lid.
"It's hanging over the edge in some bits, ripped in others."

Later on, when it came to deciding which three would make it through to the next round, it became clear that Gregg couldn't shake his unimpressed thoughts.
Speaking to John, he branded the dish "scruffy" as he remarked: "What I have got a problem with is the scruffy nature of the pie top."
John then added: "The Vietnamese beef stew didn't cook evenly.
"The pastry across the top was unwieldy."
He then asked: "Can we forgive those mistakes?," as Gregg squirmed and recoiled at the thought.
It wasn't long until Pete was told he was out of the contest after the error.
Viewers at home were also in agreement with John and Gregg as they lambasted the fact that he did not create a pie.
One wrote: "A STEW WITH A PASTRY TOP IS NOT A PIE. JAIL."

Another added: "A pie has to be a pie or else you're out!"
Before a third said: "I think if you say pie and you don't make a pie you should automatically come last."
