Netflix fans have been left in a frenzy after the streamer released the premiere date and teaser trailer for the last ever season of an acclaimed fantasy series.

Last year, the streaming service announced that it was axing Sweet Tooth after its third season—and now the hotly-anticipated trailer has been dropped.

Fans of the fantasy drama Sweet Tooth are in for a treat following Netflix’s recent announcement that Kelly Marie Tran will join as a series regular in the third and final season, which airs on June 6.

Acclaimed actress Kelly has played the role of Rose Tico in Stars Wars films The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

The 35 year old - who is repped by CAA, M88 and Goodman Genow Schenkman - has also voiced Raya in Raya and the Dragon and starred as Jules Shaw in Sorry for Your Loss, among other credits.

The 2021 Netflix fantasy drama series Sweet Tooth, based on the DC comic book series by Jeff Lemire, is back for its final outing this summer.

So far, the two seasons of the show have followed the adventures of Gus — part deer, part boy — who leaves his forest home to find the outside world destroyed by an apocalyptic event.

In search of answers about the new world and the mystery behind his hybrid origins, Gus takes along a ragtag family of humans and animal-children hybrids like himself.

The Season two finale saw Gus (Christian Convery), Jepperd (Nonso Anozie), Becky (Stefania LaVie Owen), Wendy (Naledi Murray) and the gang defeating General Abbot in the battle at Pubba’s Cabin.

Now, in the dramatic new Season 3 trailer, the brave foursome are seen venturing on a journey to Alaska in search of Gus’s maternal mother, Birdie (Amy Seimetz), who has been working to expose the mysterious origins of the deadly sick.

On their journey, they are joined by Dr. Singh (Adeel Akhtar), a fanatic who may have his own dangerous beliefs about Gus and his role in reversing the virus.

Elsewhere, a new threat appears in the form of Helen Zhang (Rosalind Chao), her daughter Rosie (Kelly), and the fierce Wolf Boys.

The dangerous gang - who view Gus as the solution to their plans- seeks to restart human birth.

As the ruthless clan navigate through treacherous terrain, Gus and his group of friends find refuge at the Outpost in Alaska, where they meet a bunch of new characters, including Siana (Cara Gee) and her hybrid daughter Nuka (Ayazhan Dalabayeva).

Soon enough the clock to find answers starts running out and alliances are tested, with destinies intertwine, all leading to an exhilarating climax that will decide the fate of humanity and hybrids.

The official X(Twitter) account for Netflix’s Sweettooth posted the new trailer and penned: “Who will survive, the humans or the hybrids? Experience the final season of Sweet Tooth on June 6, only on Netflix.”

Replying to the post, one user wrote: “Yes, please. Glad Netflix let them finish the story!  I can’t wait to see this!”

Another added: " The way my jaw dropped at the first. “There was a boy” so excited to follow Gus on his last journey!”

“I'm so excited,” a third user chimed as someone else typed, “I can't wait.”

While a fifth fan echoed: “So excited for this.”

Jim Mickle, Susan Downey, Robert Downey, Jr., Amanda Burrell, and Linda Moran executively produced Sweet Tooth with Team Downey’s Evan Mooreservings as co-executive producer of the Warner Bros. Television production.

After the cancellation announcement last year, showrunner Jim Mickle explained in a statement that it was his original plan to end the show with season three.

He said: "In a lot of ways, it’s exactly the story that I imagined we would tell, and in a lot of ways it takes on its own life.

"At the beginning, I think you set out to tell these landmark pieces of Gus’ story and the big pieces of the comic book, but the beauty of long-form storytelling and Gus’ journey over 24 episodes is the characters themselves tell you what they want to be."

Jim also teased fans with what would happen in the final installment: "Season 3 is an Arctic story with exciting new adventures and what we hope will be a satisfying conclusion to this epic tale. Gus is going to see a side of the world and humanity that he didn’t see in seasons 1 or 2."
