THE BBC has confirmed the return of Martin Freeman's drama thriller The Responder.
Freeman, 52, plays the role of troubled cop Chris Carson who is battling inner demons while juggling the day-to-day job.
The Responder is based on the real experiences of former policeman Tony Schumacher as a bobby on the beat.
It tells the story of morally-compromised cop Chris trying to navigate the intense pressure of working nights in Liverpool city centre.
And after much fanfare Beeb bosses have confirmed the second series will kick off next month.
Fans will get to see what Chris and his rookie work partner Rachel (Adelayo Adedayo) have been up to from Sunday, May 5 at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.

The first episode of the new series of The Responder will transport fans six months forward from the series one ending.
Viewers have had a long time to wait for the new episodes - two years to be exact.
A synopsis for the new run reads: "[Carson] is trying to be a better police officer, a better man, and most importantly, a better father to his daughter Tilly.
"All whilst still dealing with the relentless trauma of being a night response officer. Chris wants a day job. Chris needs a day job. But is he prepared to risk everything to get one?"

The Responder series one was Schumacher's first original series for TV and aimed to explore the emotional extremes of life on the front line of British policing.
Speaking about what it was like to be a police responder, Tony previously told the BBC: “Every time you opened the car door, you didn’t know what you were going to find.
"It’s brilliantly exciting at the start but after a bit it becomes a bit monotonous and then it becomes a bit too much.”
