EMMERDALE fans could ‘barely breathe’ after the harrowing dinner party episode – and ‘rumble’ a horrifying Belle Dingle twist.

Tuesday’s episode focused on a dinner party at Belle’s house which her husband Tom King forced her to organise last minute.

Tom invited his colleagues from the vets and their partners, but things didn’t go to plan.

Tensions were high between Marlon Dingle and wife Rhona Goskirk, and they ended up rowing in front of everyone.

Meanwhile, Tom found Belle’s contraceptive pills in the kitchen drawer, despite her agreeing to try for a baby earlier in the week.

Fleeing upstairs in tears, Tom followed her up and confronted her, verbally lashing out at her until Mandy arrived and he stopped.

But back downstairs with Tom’s criticism escalating, Belle rushed out her cake but Rhona and Marlon’s argument ended with them storming out.

Mandy, Paddy, Vanessa and Suzie quickly followed leaving Belle alone with Tom – and she was terrified.

Following her into the kitchen where was doing the washing up, Tom threw the cake to the floor before laying into her.

She tried to leave but he held her at the kitchen sink and forced her hand under the scalding hot tap.

Belle screamed: “Tom, you’re burning me.”

The scenes left Emmerdale viewers horrified, with one writing on X: “Wow I could barely breathe through this. The realistic approach to the end of a relationship hit home so much and as for the abuse escalation. Just wow.”

Another added: “What a masterpiece of an episode tonight but terrifyingly frightening too! So worried for Belle.”

A third tweeted: “Held my breath in fear all the way through.”

However, others have already predicted a further upsetting twist for Belle at the hands of her abusive husband.

One wrote: “The acting tonight was incredible. I have this awful feeling that when belle does come forward; tom will twist things and tell her family that she hasn’t been taking her medication for her schizophrenia.”
