Vera fans stunned after spotting Brenda Blethyn filming in their town – and ‘rumble’ where she’s going next
Production on the fourteenth series was in full swing in the North East of England
VERA fans were left stunned after spotting Brenda Blethyn filming in their town.
Viewers of the ITV drama were left devastated after the Academy Award nominated actress announced her departure form the iconic role.
The very same day she revealed the news, the cast gathered together for a read-through of Brenda’s final scenes.
A week later, filming was set in motion in Cambois, Northumberland – which is located in the North East of the UK – as they shot new episodes.
Brenda, 78, and her co-star David Leon, 43, were spotted filming one of their scenes in the location as Vera‘s iconic Land Rover was parked near Blyth beach.
The cast of Vera alongside extensive production units have since been seen in other locations across the region which include the likes of Ashington, Gateshead, and South Shields.
Residents of a housing estate in Blyth were ecstatic as the large car was parked next to an apartment building and Brenda was seen inside shooting her scenes.
The cameras rolled last Thursday as the actress filmed more scenes by Seaham seafront for the fourteenth instalment of the show.
There have also been multiple calls for extras that have been sent out and local residents have been encouraged to reply too.
Series 14 will be comprised of two feature-length episodes and they are due to be based on the new book by author Ann Cleeves – who is based in Tyneside – titled The Dark Wives.
Brenda’s final episodes in the role of the long-running detective are currently set to air on ITV next year.
This comes after ITV announced that Vera will be coming to an end after 14 years on-screen.
At the time she opened up on her time on the show as she said: “Working on Vera has been a joy from beginning to end and I’m sad to be saying Cheerio.
“But I am so proud of our achievements over the last fourteen
years.
“I’ll be forever grateful to the wonderful Ann Cleeves who created Vera, and to Elaine Collins who saw fit to cast me in the role.
“The Producers, dream cast and crew have been fabulous and I’m going to miss them, but I won’t forget their huge talent, the camaraderie, laughter or kindness we shared nor the friendship of the people of the north east and our fans worldwide.”
She added: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
