What to watch on TV on Tuesday 11 June, from Martin Lewis to The Great British Sewing Bee

IT'S difficult to believe it's even true, so you'll be gripped by the horrifying true-crime story about the husband who tried to kill his wife by tampering with her parachute.

She plummeted 4,000ft to the ground - but lived to tell the jaw-dropping tale, which she does in a new three-part documentary.

Here are TV Mag's six telly picks for Tuesday 11 June 2024...

The Fall: Skydive Murder Plot (9pm C4)

True-crime documentaries don’t get more gripping than this three-parter, which airs on consecutive nights, about the attempted murder of Victoria Cilliers in 2015.

Not only did Victoria fall 4,000ft when her parachute - and her reserve - failed and survived, but she tried to cover for her husband Emile, who had tampered with her kit.

It’s such an extraordinary story that it requires a fresh approach and Channel 4 have used dramatic reconstruction featuring MyAnna Buring as Victoria, with the director guiding MyAnna through what Victoria would have been thinking and feeling at that moment, and with the real-life detectives in shot, watching actors recreate their key interviews.

Candid first-person testimony throughout fills in the gaps… including from Victoria herself.

The Martin Lewis Money Show: Summer Special (8pm ITV1)

When Martin Lewis revealed that his savvy series would not be back on screens until October, there was public outcry – resulting in this one-off holiday special in which he’ll discuss everything from spending abroad to travel insurance.

Plus, Martin has an update on missing National Insurance years and how to maximise your State pension, so have a pen and paper handy.

The Yorkshire Vet (8pm C5)

David Melleney is called out to an emergency at Cannon Hall Farm when an alpaca called Roxette - a fitting name for such an exotic creature - is badly injured.

David is confident that he can get her on the mend, but also has an inkling that she might be expecting the patter of tiny hooves.

Meanwhile, at the Huddersfield hospital, Rohin Aojula is keen to do everything he can to help an injured badger return to the wild.

The Great British Sewing Bee (9pm BBC1)

With sustainable fashion growing in importance, Reuse, Reduce and Recycle Week is incredibly relevant.

For the Pattern Challenge, Esme and Patrick task the sewers with making a quilted bag complete with zip, flap and a magnetic clasp.

Making a "colour cohesive outfit"; from a pile of discarded clothes is the Transformation Challenge.

But it's the Made-to-Measure that steals tonight's show, with wedding dresses being turned into fabulous party outfits.

Marcus isn't using just any old bridal gown for the task - his wife has agreed that he can take the scissors to her own wedding dress!

Let's hope it pays off...

Police Raid: Minute By Minute (9pm C5)

Ever wondered what it’s like to be part of the elite squad of coppers who go on raids to track down some of the biggest scammers, fraudsters and criminals in Britain?

Well, you get a front row seat in this show as cameras follow police as they provide back-up to gas company reps who are investigating meter tampering.

Meanwhile, a gang in Kent are leaving a trail of terror with their ram-raid attacks.

Can police track them down?

Copa 71: The Lost Lionesses: Storyville (10pm BBC4)

The England women’s football team is a much-loved source of national pride.

It wasn’t always that way, however, as this affecting documentary reveals.

In 1971, a women’s football World Cup was held in Mexico, featuring six countries, including England.

Despite the games being played in front of crowds reaching 100,000, they received little publicity at home - and when they returned, they faced ridicule rather than respect.

The story of the tournament - and the brilliant, pioneering women involved - is told, at long last.
