Pensioner denies stabbing Jay Blades’ uncle, 72, to death in ‘long-running neighbour row over shared alleyway’
Repair Shop star revealed the heartbreaking news to his followers in a moving post
A PENSIONER has denied murdering Jay Blades’ uncle in an alleged neighbour row over a shared alleyway.
Derrick Brown, 72, is accused of stabbing Richard Brathwaite, 73, to death with a large kitchen knife.
Brown also allegedly attacked Richard’s wife Annetta, 71, in Wembley, North West London, on March 21.
He appeared at the Old Bailey today to deny murder, wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
The court was told the alleged murder was sparked by a “long running neighbour dispute”.
Prosecutor Deanna Heer previously said Brown believed Richard was leaving items in a shared alleyway.
Annetta had called police on March 21 to report Brown had allegedly attacked her and her husband.
When emergency crews arrived, Richard sadly couldn’t be saved and was declared dead shortly after.
Devastated Jay revealed his beloved uncle had been “murdered” in an Instagram post.
The Repair Shop star said: “Hope you’re all well. This is kind of like a public service announcement.
“I’ve just been to my uncle’s funeral, he was murdered a few weeks ago. Really, super nice guy, shouldn’t have happened to him, but it really affected me.”
Jay informed his followers he was stepping back from social media to focus on his mental health.
He ended the message by saying: “Please, take care of each other, take care of yourself, and I’ll see you guys soon.”
Jay was immediately flooded with support by his TV star pals.
Julia Bradbury said: “Sorry to hear this Jay. Glad you’re taking some time out.”
While Louise Minchin wrote: “I am so sorry to hear this, sending you love xx.”
Jay recently returned to The Repair Shop for the first time since his split from wife Lisa.
Brown was remanded into custody ahead of his trial on January 27.
