CORONATION Street fans have hit out at the show once again as they lambasted the programme for airing stories with "no impact".

The ITV soap has been under fire from long-term fans who have been left majorly underwhelmed by its recent content.

Recent storylines including Toyah Battersby's secret dead baby, Roy Cropper being imprisoned for Lauren Bolton's murder and Abi Franklin's AI porn plot have all received staunch criticism.

Viewers have been critical about the story decisions and have argued that it is failing to be an accurate representation of Northern life.

Some fans have now even begun to brand the soap "meaningless" and have been heavily critical over its recent writing.

It caused one Coronation Street superfan to go on an almighty outburst about the show.

Furiously hitting out, the fan said online: "EVERYTHING is MEANINGLESS.

"Stories and events lead nowhere and have little to no impact on any of the characters.

"All is quickly and conveniently forgotten before the next big crisis or issue comes crashing in, seemingly out of nowhere before existing plots/sub plots are resolved to any extent.

"They can throw endless stories at any one character, but as you said, nothing ever moves forward, they may as well be frozen in time as there's usually zero character development as a result and life just goes on as before as if events never actually happened."

They further went on to blast the show for its recent 'retcons' - a process of changing the history and backstory of a programme.

This was demonstrated recently with the decision to make Toyah a secret mother following her horrific rape in the early 2000s.

Corrie's Roy Cropper is attacked in prison by Griff

Despite the storyline playing out on-screen with no sign of visible pregnancy and Toyah having conversations about the morning-after-pill following the horror attack, show bosses recently played out the storyline which received a widespread negative reaction.

The fuming fan added: "Bizarre retcons and scenes or dialogue deliberately added to plug obvious gaping holes in a story further insult the audience's intelligence and expose the writers for what they are - lazy and talentless."

"The scriptwriters seem to just throw any old s*** at the wall these days in the hope it sticks.

"They may as well flash up an extra title on screen at the beginning of every episode that reads 'We've given up on this show folks, whether or not you do the same is entirely your choice. Enjoy!'"

Echoing their thoughts, a fellow Corrie watched went on to say: "The legends of yesteryear must be turning in their graves at what a Dog's Breakfast Corrie is now."

The soap has been dealt another major blow in recent weeks with the confirmation that Helen Worth is walking away from the show after 50 years.

Her exit comes as The Sun revealed she had only appeared in just eight episodes of the soap this year with Gail Platt failing to appear in any major plots.
