Homes Under The Hammer star Tommy Walsh shares health update amid new cancer treatment

The star was axed from the BBC property programme not long after his cancer diagnosis

HOMES Under The Hammer's Tommy Walsh has opened up about the 'cutting edge' cancer treatment he is receiving on the NHS.

It was revealed in January that Tommy, 67, had received a diagnosis of lung cancer and he has now given an update on his health.

that he is receiving Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR). Macmillan Cancer Support explains that SABR "uses many smaller, focused beams of radiation".

Tommy told the publication: "I had to have this new treatment called SABR and what it is is radiotherapy which targets it to an exact spot without damaging the organs around it.

"So they used that and it shrunk. It is now not anywhere else.

"It is going away. Because it is shrinking it will shrink down to nothing and disappear."

It came to light earlier this year that Tommy had confirmed his cancer diagnosis at a conference in November 2023.

He gave a presentation at a conference for The Swallows Head & Neck Cancer charity and said he had sought medical help after suffering from "chest symptoms".

"I had a chest infection, had to go to the doctor and they sent me up to hospital for a CT scan and they think there's a three centimetre tumour in the lung.

"I've tried to keep cheerful and you've cheered me up today, and thank you for letting me reminisce and talk.

"I was weighing up whether or not to tell you about this but I felt it would be unfair if I was to leave this and I didn't tell you.

"That's why I'm going to have to leave after this talk and I won't be able to join you for a few beers tonight.

"But I hope and I would be really pleased if you would have a few on my behalf and I'll keep my fingers crossed, and if you wouldn't mind, keep your fingers crossed for me."

This is unfortunately Tommy's third brush with cancer.

In 2002, he had two benign lumps removed from his chest. Then 20 years later, he successfully had a cancerous tumour removed from his throat.

Meanwhile, Tommy was axed from Homes Under The Hammer in January after three years on the show.

He had joined the BBC property renovation programme in 2021 alongside Martin Roberts, 60, plus Martel Maxwell, 47, and ex-footballer Dion Dublin, 55.

But Tommy has since been replaced by Radio 2 host Owain Wyn Evans, 40.

Owain presented the weather on regional BBC shows for years and made his debut on BBC Breakfast in 2021, having reported for The One Show.

He now also presents Radio 2’s Early Breakfast Show and last year raised more than £3million for Children In Need with his 24-hours drum-athon.
