‘He’s a spare part!’ fume EastEnders fans as they fear actor will quit BBC soap ‘out of boredom’
A fan said they would be "gutted" if the star in question did leave the BBC show
EASTENDERS fans have shared fears over a popular star quitting the soap ‘out of boredom’.
The long-running BBC programme has seen numerous characters come and go in its 39-year history.
However, viewers have voiced concerns over a popular character being used less frequently – while worrying the actor might leave as a result.
As the first baby to be born in the soap, Martin Fowler holds a special place in EastEnders‘ history.
a fan said: “I feel sorry for James Bye who plays Martin Fowler. Its a joke that Martin is getting shoved behind.
“I just hope James doesn’t quit out of boredom. I will be gutted if this happens.
“Please bosses, give Martin some storylines.”
Another commented: “I don’t think the writers know what to do with him. He seems like a spare part.”
Seeming to agree, a third penned: “Felix and Martin are the most in need of some serious storylines now as they’ve been sidelined and not even a decent support role for about a year!”
However, others offered up possible explanations, with one citing real life circumstances: “There was a thread about Martin last week.
“I know that his wife had a baby this time last year – it could well be that James Bye has been on a reduced filming schedule as part of a pre-agreed paternity arrangement for the last 12 months.”
While another said: “James B has always felt more like a Fowler to me than James A [Alexandrou, the previous actor] ever did. He’s still got lots of potential.”
A fellow fan added: “I do feel Martin Fowler has always been limited as a character that works best in the background for a while doing normal, everyday scenes before getting the big stories.
“James Bye has really slotted into the character well.”
Upon taking over the role of Martin in 2014, James Bye became the third actor to play the part.
Since returning to Albert Square, Martin married and later divorced Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), with whom he has daughter Hope.
