Initially, Ella wanted to to attend her baby scan alone due to Liam's previous judgemental comments.

But when Ella's taxi to the hospital cancelled on her, Liam demanded to take her himself, especially since she believes he is the dad to her unborn baby.

The pair arrived at the scan eagerly anticipating to hear their baby's heartbeat for the first time, however, when the nurse's face dropped while looking at the screen and left the hospital room rather abruptly, Liam expected the worst.

Liam assumed the nurse couldn't find a heartbeat and then he questioned Ella if there was a baby at all and lied about being pregnant.

An offended Ella couldn't believe what he was suggesting, and soon Liam stormed out of the hospital, with Ella following suit.

It was later revealed that Ella's baby had died - leaving her devastated.

In heart-breaking scenes, Ella asked Manpreet: "What have I done wrong? They couldn't see my baby on the scan and now Liam thinks I've made the whole thing up."

Ella added: "I'm not mad Manpreet. I did tests. I didn't imagine the results and neither did Liam."

Manpreet said: "I know, but he would have seen this kind of thing before, sadly its not that rare."

Manpreet then informed her that she had an anembryonic pregnancy, also known as blighted ovum or a silent miscarriage.

It is a type of early miscarriage that occurs when a fertilised egg implants into your uterus, but does not develop into an embryo.

The fertilised egg stops growing, but the gestational sac (where the embryo would develop) continues to grow.

"So there was a real baby?" Ella asked.

"Yes, did you conceive. You were definitely pregnant," Manpreet reassured her and she cried in her arms.

Meanwhile, Liam talked to Paddy about how he thinks Ella lied about being pregnant.

Liam said: "I knew I shouldn't have believed her. And now this fictitious fantasy baby is gone, how do I deal with that?"

He added: "I should be relieved there's no baby. The women is obviously deeply disturbed. She needs to leave Paddy. I want her gone."
