Who was Sania Khan?
Sania was born in 1993 and was a first generation child of Pakistani parents.
She grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee and went on to double major in psychology and women’s studies at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Sania had a love of photography and decided to use her creative streak to build a career.
She married her Raheel Ahmed in June 2021, after they had dated for five years.
Sania filed for divorce in December of that same year.
After deciding to open up on social media about her experience with marriage and divorce, she quickly began to gain a far reaching following.
Sania also discussed online how domestic violence and divorce are taboo subjects in the South Asian community.
While she remained in Chicago, her husband moved to Georgia.
What happened to Sania Khan?
Sania was found by Chicago police in July 2022, a month before her divorce was set to be finalised.
She had been in the process of moving back to Chattanooga, before she was shot in the back of the head by Raheel.
Raheel was found with a handgun and a suicide note, before later being pronounced dead at Northwestern Hospital.
A GoFundMe campaign raised over $36,000 to pay for Sania’s funeral.
On July 24 2022, a candlelight vigil was held at Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences.
The Sania Khan Memorial Scholarship Fund was created to support female students, who are looking to pursue a fine arts degree at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.
