Taskmaster spin-off series finally gets launch date on Channel 4 – and fans don’t have long to wait
Fans have been waiting for the spin off to air, which will hit screens in November
THE long awaited Junior Taskmaster is set to air on Channel 4, and see younger challengers take on the show’s quirky tasks.
The spin off series of Taskmaster on Channel 4 was originally announced in March, but it’s now set to air next month.
Junior Taskmaster will be headed up by Rose Matafeo and Assistant Mike Wozniak, the series will see twenty-five contestants aged between nine and eleven years old who will take on the show’s challenges.
According to the show, the series will see “Twenty-five young heroes will compete across five heats and two semi-finals before the top five players will head through to the to the Grand Final, where they will hope to become the very first Junior Taskmaster Champion and, continuing the Taskmaster tradition, have the honour of taking home a trophy of the Junior Taskmaster’s magnificent golden head.”
The series is a spin off from the ever popular Taskmaster on Channel 4, which has now had six seasons and been renewed for a further six.
The comedy series – which is hosted by Greg Davies and Alex Horne – first aired on Dave before moving to Channel 4 in 2020.
It has become one of Channel 4’s most successful shows and will now air two series a year until 2026.
The junior spin off version has been created by Alex Horne, although he doesn’t feature in the series.
He previously said: “I’ve watched many, many comedians flounder when given simple instructions over the past few years and I fully expect the competitors in Junior Taskmaster to be both more competent and just as funny.
“For that series, I will be handing over my assistant’s clipboard to someone equally as efficient and persistent as myself because I have a lot more admin to do with six further handfuls of supposedly talented adults.
“I live for bureaucracy, so this is all excellent news.”
Taskmaster Greg said: “My long-term contempt for young people is a matter of record but other people here at Taskmaster HQ seem convinced that they have merit.
“I am thrilled that two new team members are putting this questionable hypothesis to the test and will take on the challenge of corralling and assessing them on television.”
He added: “I will be watching closely to ensure standards are met. I am also delighted that Alex and I return to test the intelligence of comedians in the most scientific of ways.
“I’ll be pretty angry. It’s not even an act anymore.”
Channel 4 Head of Entertainment Phil Harris said: “After the success of our Taskmaster’s New Years’ Treat specials, to be able to extend the Taskmaster universe with Junior Taskmaster is incredibly exciting.”
Junior Taskmaster is set to air weekly from 8pm on Friday 8th November on Channel 4.
