ITV announce brand new celebrity prank show – and fans of Beadle’s About will love it
The celebrity contestants will try to win big cash prizes
A NEW ITV prank show will see teams of celebs sabotaging unsuspecting members of the public to win a cash prize.
The format comes from the producers of popular series including I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here and My Mum, Your Dad.
New format Celebrity Sabotage, which as been commissioned by ITV, will see stars laced with hidden cameras to capture the action.
The aim of the game is for the celebs to work together to tot up an impressive lump sum of cash for a member of the public, without them knowing.
It looks to be taking inspiration from popular 90s series Beadle’s About, where presenter Jeremy Beadle played practical jokes on the streets of the UK, and American series Impractical Jokers – which sees friends compete in increasingly outrageous public dares.
A show insider said, “Celebrity Sabotage incorporates game show, hidden camera and reality in a prime-time show that sees celebrities duping members of the public.
“There are loads of laughs, and the celebrities’ sabotage is all for a good cause – to win them loads of cash.”
It comes after the success of dating show My Mum, Your Dad, which launched on ITV last year and aired a second series in September.
The show sees single parents matched up in a luxurious countryside retreat, while their grown-up kids help to orchestrate the action.
It proved its popularity among viewers by averaging audiences of more than two million following its launch.
ITV confirmed the show will return for a third series as applications to take part have opened.
Host Davina McCall revealed she approved of a spin-off show where pensioners are looking for love called Your Nan and My Grandad.
She said: “I called up the company [ITV] immediately and said, ‘Guys, you do know that this is a great idea’.
“I am not joking. I am manifesting it. I’m going to make this happen.”
Elsewhere, it was confirmed this week that popular I’m A Celeb spin-off show Extra Camp was returning, under a new name.
Talking on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, the jungle alum confirmed The Sun’s exclusive story about the show’s comeback.
The additional slice of action Down Under will come under a new name – and now be dubbed I’m A Celebrity Unpacked.
It will be hosted by 2016 runner-up Joel Dommett, reigning jungle king Sam Thompson, and radio DJ Kemi Rodgers.
