Suranne Jones plays Evies’s eccentric single mother

Aimee Lou Wood, who also stars in Daddy Issues and White Lotus series three, plays Evie, who sees the film club as her escape from the house after a wobble.

She joins Kaos star Nabhaan Rizwan who plays Noa – her best friend.

Meanwhile, Suranne Jones, better known for playing Doctor Foster, will play Suz, Evie’s eccentric and unconventional mother.

Another star joining the cast is Adam Long (Happy Valley, Masters of the Air) as Josh.

Liv Hill is her sister, Izzie, while co-creator Ralph Davis will play Dominic, Film Club’s newest member.

Film Club is about a group of friends who meet to discuss movies – they meet at the same time and the same place every week.

But when Evie’s best friend Noa shares that he is about to take a job across the other side of the country, life is about to change for Evie.

Evie is shocked and begins to realise she is in love with a friend and has to navigate it all amongst the eccentricity of her family home that she shares with her single mother Suz, her sister Izzie, and her boyfriend Josh.

Film Club is a witty and emotional show about love and family and whether we should follow our hearts or heads?

Aimee, who co-wrote the series, said: “I’m thrilled that our beloved TV series Film Club, a project that Ralph and I have been writing for the past decade, starts shooting this week.

Taskmaster viewers all say the same thing as series 15 winner is revealed - and next batch of celebrities are confirmed

“We couldn’t be more excited, and grateful, to the incredible team we have assembled with the BBC. To bring this to life with Nabhaan and Suranne, two exceptional actors I have always admired, is a real honour.”

Nabhaan shared: “I’m excited, I feel relaxed and I’m ready… to parrrtaaayyy with the best of them!”

Suranne gushed: “I’ve loved Aimee for a while now and think she is a beautifully real, honest and brilliantly funny talent, so it was no surprise the script she and Ralph Davis have created was the same. It’s smart, sweet and punchy. I can’t wait to be her tiger mum… and I get to film in my home town too.”

Aimee and Ralph co-wrote the series along with Anna Jordan who joined the writing team for episode four.

Aimee rose to fame in hit Netflix series Sex Education as Aimee Gibbs, and she won a BAFTA for Best Female Comedy Performance for the role.
