Charli XCX wows SNL viewers with comedic timing and Adele impersonation
Fans were quick to react to the Wicked-themed skit
CHARLI XCX wowed the Saturday Night Live audiences with a pitch-perfect impersonation of fellow British hitmaker Adele.
The 365 songstress, 32, juggled both the host and live singer roles on the NBC show last night – as well as taking part in the signature skits.
Charli kicked off proceedings in a plunging lace black dress for her opening monologue.
Later in the episode, she switched up to another LBD and pulled on a caramel-coloured wig as she got stuck into her impression of the Hello hitmaker, 36.
It came as part of a Wicked movie-themed skit which saw Charli’s version of Adele in a mock screen test for the role of green witch, Elphaba.
It saw her enter the rehearsal room and say: “Oh hello, can I take me shoes off?”
She then kicked them off and said: “OK, wicked,” before she added: “Oh my God!
“I said the name of the bloody movie, shut up,” before proceeding to swear.
Apple singer Charlie then belted out Adele’s iconic cackle before wrapping up her segment.
She also took on the roles of Dance Moms star Jojo Siwa and Troye Sivan, among others.
Fans were quick to react on X, with one writing: “Anyone else catch that quick @Adele minute reference on #snl”
Another giggled: “Charli XCX as Adele on SNL? Absolutely hilarious!”
One then gushed: “SHE DID GREAT,” as another wrote: “Fabulous.”
Another surmised: “She crushed it!”
Yet others appeared confused by the Cambridge-born popstar.
One confessed: “No idea who this is.”
Another added: “Lost me right here. Spend the money on a host!”
A few weeks before the Wicked themed skit, movie star Ariana scooped huge praise when she fronted SNL.
After an entertaining monologue she then gave a cheeky kiss to her co-star.
The 7 Rings hitmaker plays Ginda the good witch in the film adaptation of the theatre show, which hits cinemas this month.
