DISGRACED newsreader Huw Edwards “snubbed” BBC veteran David Dimbleby because he wanted his job, an ex-Downing Street official has said.

He was allegedly jealous of 86-year-old Dimbleby’s standing within the BBC as host of Question Time and face of the broadcaster’s election coverage.

Edwards never acknowledged Dimbleby because he wanted his job, according to former PM Boris Johnson’s ex-press chief Guto Harri

Former PM Boris Johnson’s ex-press chief Guto Harri, 58, said he was with Edwards at a restaurant in London when Dimbleby entered the room.

He said: “He waved at us from across the restaurant with a big smile on his face, and I waved back.

“Huw looked around and pretended he hadn’t seen him.

“He said, ‘I never acknowledge him’, just to make David Dimbleby look like a fool.

“It was all because Huw ultimately wanted his job.”

Mr Harri worked for the BBC for 18 years.

He said he was “disgusted and appalled” when Edwards admitted making indecent images of children, for which he received a suspended jail sentence.

Mr Harri said: “I was quite fond of him.

“But he’s done something that we’re not only ashamed of but we’re disgusted by.

“In the end, he will be remembered as someone who did something awful.”
