DANIEL Craig says the heavily criticised Bond film Quantum Of Solace was not up to scratch because the script was not ready when shooting began — and he ended up writing a lot of the film.

The movie was Craig’s second outing as 007 after Casino Royale and the script was delayed by a Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike.

Craig said: “Difficult second album — f***ing nightmare.

"Paul Haggis did a pass on the script.

“Then he went off and joined the picket line and we didn’t have writers.

“We should never have started production.

“I ended up writing a lot of that film, which I probably shouldn’t say.”

He added on the Awards Chatter podcast: “There are some amazing stunt sequences in it but it just didn’t quite work.

“The storytelling wasn’t there.

"That’s a lesson — starting a movie without a script is not a good idea.”

The film was impacted by the WGA strike which lasted from November 2007 until February 2008.

It starred Olga Kurylenko as Camille, Judi Dench as M, and Gemma Arterton as Strawberry Fields.
