Demi Moore makes shock career admission after winning first Golden Globe aged 62

ACTRESS Demi Moore shone at the Golden Globes awards with the first major gong in her 45-year career.

The 62-year-old collected the Best Actress trophy for her role in body-horror movie The Substance — and admitted she almost quit acting before being cast.

Fellow showbiz veteran Jodie Foster, 62, also picked up a Best Actress TV award.

Demi — whose gleaming golden gown was echoed by other celebs in metallic designer outfits — plays a fading star who uses a drug to create a younger version of herself.

And in an emotional speech on Sunday night, she said: “I’m just in shock right now. I’ve been doing this a long time, like over 45 years, and this is the first time that I’ve ever won anything as an actor.

“Thirty years ago, I had a producer tell me that I was a popcorn actress, and at that time, I made that mean that this (award) wasn’t something that I was allowed to have.

“I could do movies that were successful and that made a lot of money but I couldn’t be acknowledged and I believed that. That corroded me over time, to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it, maybe I was complete, maybe I’d already done what I was supposed to do.

“I was at kind of a low point, and then I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk and the universe told me that (I’m) not done.”

Demi is now favourite for Best Actress at the Oscars in March, with nominations announced next week.

Speaking to The Sun backstage about almost leaving the industry, she added: “It was on the heels of feeling like I hadn’t experienced anything exciting or that felt meaningful and questioning whether I should even be doing this any more. And then about two weeks later, this came along — this bold, dynamic script. I had no idea if this was going to work or be a disaster, but it was worth taking the risk.”

The Golden Globes split most categories in two, with one award for dramas and a separate prize for musicals/comedies.

Demi won Best Actress in a musical/comedy.

Jodie Foster picked up her fifth Golden Globe for Best Actress in a limited series for True Detective: Night Country.

Afterwards, she said: “This is the most contented moment of my career.”

Spanish language musical Emilia Perez, about a Mexican drug lord who changes gender, won four awards including Best Musical/Comedy Film, Best Original Song and Best non-English Language Film.

Zoe Saldana, 46, won Best Supporting Actress for her role.

Period drama The Brutalist starring Felicity Jones, 41, won the Best Drama film category, while Adrien Brody, 51, won Best Drama Actor.

Fernanda Torres, 59, was the first Brazilian star to win Best Drama Actress, an award her mum Fernanda Montenegro, 95, was also nominated for in 1999.

In the TV category, Japanese historical drama Shogun won four awards.

Cate Blanchett, 55, wearing a cinched golden Louis Vuitton dress, missed out for her Apple TV+ drama Disclaimer.

Sharon Stone, 66, wearing a blue sequin ruched frock, and Anya Taylor-Joy, 28, in a high-shine blush slip dress from Dior, were guest presenters at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile actresses Eiza Gonzalez, 34, and Cara Delevingne, 32, both dazzled in reflective dresses.
