The legendary musician, 77, made the announcement in a video shared on his social media.

Now, his wife of 24 years has shared an update while speaking at Cirque du Soleil this week.

She told how her husband is “stable” following his stroke, and revealed what they’d done over Christmas.

The 75-year-old actress said: “The start of the year has been up and down. We both had the flu but we took the kids to Lapland. 15 of them.

“Brian is stable now. Brian has never been happier since we moved.

“For me it's been a curveball as I'm a London girl born and bred so going to the countryside to a house that needs a lot of work was a bit of a shock.”

She continued: “To see what it has done to Brian...he loves it. He loves the birds and the animals. He feeds all the birds and the badgers, foxes and pheasants.

“It's like running a pub for animals. We are going to see some friends in Switzerland and I've got another series of Doctor Who coming out.

“But apart from that we are just chilling at the moment and spending time at home is quite good.”

Anita also said they’re “taking each day as it comes,” as she said: “It makes you realise that at any minute it could be you.

“You don’t have to necessarily be old, It could be anyone.

“You think you are fit, you see these people who run marathons and then at a young age they are gone.

“You have to live every day as if it was your last. It’s not easy to do that. You forget and think I’ve got another week and it’s all booked up, you have to be aware that life is precious and with life changing so fast we are all on a bit of a thin thread if you like.”

Anita, who married Sir Brian in 2000, also shared a hobby he’s taken up.

“I don’t share my kitchen normally but Brian has taken up cooking. He cooks chestnuts and roasts them.

“He’s done experimental things and I’m a bit anal about my kitchen but he’s been very good.

“He wants to do more for animals and he wants to save the badgers.”

She also discussed Linda Nolan, who sadly passed away this week, saying: “It’s so sad about the Linda. They are a great family and she fought a great fight.”

It comes after Sir Brian posted a video on his website sharing the news of his stroke.

The music icon said: "I’m here to bring you first of all some news, I think. The good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days.

“I say this because it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup happened about a week ago. What they called it was a ‘minor stroke’.

“All of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary."

Sir Brian revealed the incident left him temporarily unable to use his left arm - but that he had a "very exciting" emergency ambulance journey to Frimley Hospital in Surrey.

Meanwhile, Anita will return to EastEnders to feature in Ross Kemp’s documentary about the soap for its 40th anniversary next month.
