Why is Adam Sandler not in Hotel Transylvania 4?
HOTEL Transylvania 4 long-awaited release is here, but with one notable cast member missing.
Although the spooky crew will be back in full force, Adam Sandler did not return to the film's franchise as the voice of Dracula or in his previous role of executive producer.
Why isn't Adam Sandler in Hotel Transylvania 4?
Sony announced in April 2021 that Sandler would not be returning as Dracula for the fourth film.
Sandler was the executive producer for the first three films, but he has now completely stepped away from the franchise.
Although Sandler has not commented on his reasons for leaving the Hotel Transylvania films, he reportedly signed a $250million deal with Netflix in July 2020.
The newly arranged deal will pull him into making films for Netflix and reportedly could take him away from Sony Pictures, his previous home.
As of January 2022, Sony Pictures has not confirmed why Sandler left the franchise.
Who is replacing Adam Sandler as the voice of Dracula?
Brian Hull has replaced franchise star Adam Sandler as the voice of Dracula.
Hull has experience in the role, having previously voiced the character in the short film Monster Pets.
Directors Jennifer Kluska and Derek Drymon said in an interview with the UK's Radio Times that the film's storyline allowed them to make the change in actors.
Drymon said, “The fact that he turns into a human was a good opportunity to do things a little differently. He could be a little different than he was in the movies, and it would be natural.
"So, it kind of was the perfect movie to have a person come in and fill those shoes.”
Kluska added, “We started with the design, and how do we make that character feel as different as possible. He’s not going to animate the same; he’s not going to look the same.
"And it felt like embracing Brian and, more specifically, embracing what the difference in that would be as a human. It felt like it was a great opportunity.”
