Oscars 2024 LIVE – Al Pacino unveils big winner in ‘anticlimactic’ moment after Jennifer Lawrence breaks into tears
THE 2024 Oscars' biggest award was overshadowed as Al Pacino appeared to make a very awkward blunder while announcing Best Picture.
Legendary actor Pacino took to the stage to present the Academy Award for Best Picture to Oppenheimer - but viewers were shocked when he didn't read out the nominees before saying that his "eyes saw" Oppenheimer on the card.
"Al Pacino’s Oscar announcement of best picture was the most chaotic, confusing, and anticlimactic moment of an otherwise enjoyable award show," one viewer on X, formerly known as Twitter.
But aside from the bungled announcement, it was a great night for Brits as film-maker Christopher Nolan scooped an Oscar for Best Director whilst The Zone of Interest claimed the Oscar for Best International Feature Film.

The Oscars is hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), a 6,000-strong group made up of film industry professionals such as actors, directors and producers.
There are different sections within the AMPAS and those individual sections cast the nominations.

The Zone of Interest director addresses Middle East crisis
Jonathan Glazer, director of the Oscar-winning film, The Zone of Interest, used his acceptance speech to share a political message.
Glazer’s film was set in Auschwitz and won for Best International Feature Film.
He told the audience, “Our film shows where dehumanization leads at its worst.”
“It shaped all of our past and present. Right now, we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation which has led to conflict for so many innocent people,” he continued.
“Whether the victims of Oct. 7 or the ongoing attack on Gaza, all the victims of this dehumanization — how do we resist?”
RDJ and Ke Huy Quan looked friendly backstage
Despite fans accusing Robert Downey Jr. of "snubbing" Ke Huy Quan onstage, the two actors seemed to get along well backstage.

Instead, Robert shook hands with Tim Robbins and fist-bumped Sam Rockwell, while Ke Huy was left holding the envelope he’d attempted to hand over.
In his speech, Robert failed to mention Ke Huy, other than to thank the "fellas" on the stage behind him - and viewers slammed the actor for his supposedly rude treatment of Ke Huy.
"I love that Robert Downey Jr. received his much-deserved Oscar award but the way he ignored Ke Huy Quan is so sad," one wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
"I know he maintains his 'Tony Stark' kind of personality but this was rude."
“He literally handed him the award with the biggest smile on his face and Robert blatantly ignored him,” another added.
“You can be the biggest star yet have zero humility and grace.”
RDJ slammed for 'snubbing' Ke Huy Quan
Robert Downey Jr, 58, won the award for his role in Oppenheimer at the awards ceremony on Sunday night.
Robert was met on stage by five past Best Supporting Actor winners — Sam Rockwell, Tim Robbins, Christoph Waltz, Mahershala Ali, and last year’s winner, Ke Huy.
It is tradition at the Oscars for the last person who won the accolade to hand it over to the new recipient.
Ke Huy - who won the award for Everything Everywhere All at Once - excitedly called Robert's name and beamed as the actor took to the stage.
The Sherlock Holmes actor failed to make eye contact with Ke Huy and breezed past him as he collected the Oscar.
Michelle Yeoh congratulates Emma Stone

"...But isn't it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings?"
At a post-Oscars press conference, Opel explained his reason for the impromptu incident and told the crowd: "It just occurred to me that it might be an educative thing to do.
"You know, people shouldn’t be ashamed of being nude in public.
"Besides, it is a hell of a way to launch a career."
On July 7, 1979, 39-year-old Opel's life was cut short when he was murdered during an attempted robbery at his San Francisco art studio.
What to know about the original Oscars streaker
Jimmy Kimmel and John Cena's sketch was meant to be a parody of Robert Opel, the streaker from the 1974 Oscars ceremony.

After successfully sneaking in, he sprinted past David Niven while holding up the peace sign.

John Cena bared it all on Oscars stage
As the 2024 Oscars' second hour went underway, Jimmy Kimmel referenced a streaking incident that happened over 50 years ago at the 46th Academy Awards.
During the 1974 Oscars telecast, a man ran nude across the stage while David Niven was introducing Elizabeth Taylor.
In a sketch poking fun at the incident, Jimmy told the audience that John Cena was going to reenact the moment.
Instead of sauntering across the stage naked, John slowly walked out with just an envelope covering his genital area.

Donald Trump's message to Jimmy Kimmel
Former president Donald Trump was tuning into the Oscars last night and made sure to let Jimmy Kimmel know his hosting skills weren't up to par.
"Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars. His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be," Trump wrote in a on Truth Social.
"Also a really bad politically correct show tonight, and for years - Disjointed, boring, and very unfair. Why don’t they just give the Oscars to those that deserve them.
"Maybe that way their audience and TV ratings will come back from the depths. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
