CASUALTY fans were left devastated when Ryan Firth, played by Eddie-Joe Robinson, resigned from his role at Holby City Hospital in a dramatic episode.

After the scenes aired in January 2024 viewers had questions over whether Robinson's exit was just temporary - or if Ryan was gone for good.

Who is Eddie-Joe Robinson?

Eddie-Joe Robinson is an actor who is best known for his work on BBC hospital drama Casualty.

He was born on September 19, 1994, in West Yorkshire.

According to his IMDb, Robinson was born and raised in Sheffield but moved to London when he was 19.

The star moved to begin his studies at university and went on to complete a degree in Mathematics at University College London.

In 2017, he began training as an actor with the National Youth Theatre REP Company.

Robinson's acting career began on the stage, with the star landing roles in theatre productions like Jekyll and Hyde, Save + Quit, Coriolanus and Sorry, You're Not a Winner.

He then moved into television and has since appeared in many well-known series.

In January 2024 Casualty announced that Eddie-Joe Robinson had left the soap for good.

The news about the actor, who played Ryan Firth, was confirmed on the show's social media accounts.

On his last episode, Robinson's character Ryan was seen resigning from his role due to the trauma he had suffered following a violent attack at work.

Charlie Fairhead, who plays Derek Thompson, tried to help Ryan deal with his trauma and keep his job but Ryan's mind was made up. 

In his final scenes, he was seen checking out of the hospital and handing in his ID badge, signalling the end of his time working there.

After the scenes aired on January 6, 2024, fans initially thought Ryan's exit would be temporary and that Robinson would return to the cast after a break.

Casualty's official Instagram account then posted a picture of Robinson smiling alongside his castmates Sarah Seggari, Anna Chell and Barney Walsh (who is hosting the new series of Gladiators with his dad Bradley).

The post confirmed Robinson's exit was actually permanent, with the caption reading: "When four become three…We will miss you Eddie-Joe! #Casualty."

Robinson, Seggari, Cell and Walsh all joined the soap at the same time, playing new staff nurses.
