Coronation Street’s Lisa George reveals she’s terrified of skating on Dancing On Ice after suffering ‘flashbacks’ to nasty childhood skating injury in training
CORONATION Street's Lisa George has revealed she's terrified of skating on Dancing On Ice after suffering 'flashbacks' to nasty childhood skating injury in training.
The 49-year-old actress is best known for playing Beth Tinker on the ITV soap, but is swapping the cobbles for the ice rink to take part in the ITV reality show.
Speaking on today's Lorraine after being confirmed as the sixth celebrity, Lisa admitted she used to ice skate as a child, until she had a nasty injury.
She said: "I did it for a couple of years until I was about nine.
"I was in a competition and I stuck my blades in the ice, the ice shot up like a shard and cut my chin open so that was the end of my skating career.
"I'm 49 this year so I haven't been on the ice for 40 years."
Despite so much time passing since her nasty injury, Lisa still felt strange getting back on the ice for her first training session yesterday.
She told Lorraine: "I was scared, the ice was really glossy and I thought 'oh that's when I fell', so I had a flashback."
But Lisa explained how she wanted to overcome her fears and embrace the challenge ahead of her milestone 50th birthday next year.
She said: "It's a huge birthday for me, I thought, if I don't do this now I'll never have the chance to do this again.
"I can't believe I'm going to go back on the ice, when I stepped on the ice yesterday I felt like a nine year old again
"I just felt free and I was really buzzing, I got in my car and I was quite emotional afterwards."
Earlier today, Steps singer Ian 'H' Watkins confirmed his place on the show, hours after The Sun revealed the full line-up.
