Meghan Trainor to replace Jennifer Hudson as a coach on The Voice as she quits after two years on the singing show
SHE’S famously all about the bass, but in her latest gig Grammy winner Meghan Trainor is going to have to show she can appreciate much more than that.
I can reveal the US singer has signed up as a coach on ITV singing contest The Voice, after Jennifer Hudson on Thursday night confirmed her plans to quit.
J-Hud decided to move on after two years as a coach.
Bosses were keen to replace her with another international female to join the panel alongside Olly Murs, Sir Tom Jones and the slightly bewildering Will.I.am.
Meghan brings plenty of experience, having appeared on Fox’s US singing contest The Four alongside Sean Combs and DJ Khaled.
She said: “I am so excited and honoured to join Sir Tom, Will and Olly as a coach on The Voice UK.
“It’s a dream come true and I can’t wait to sit in the chair with my own button and listen to some incredible new talent.”
Hopefully her comments on screen will be a bit more snappy. But insiders say she’s keen to throw herself straight into the role next month, ahead of the show’s return to our screens in January.
Jennifer quit as she is playing Aretha Franklin in a biopic about the iconic singer, as well as finalising her work on the hotly anticipated big screen version of West End musical Cats.
The Voice host Emma Willis was quick to heap praise on the new arrival. She said: “Meghan is a fab choice. It’s always exciting when a new coach arrives.”
Olly added: “I’m really looking forward to getting to know her.”
Meghan’s a great signing for The Voice — hopefully she can put her own spin on the show’s famous red chairs (I do apologise for that).
Alesha in America
BRITAIN’S Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon is heading over the Pond to join Simon Cowell on the American version of the show.

Cam on and feel the love
CAMILA Cabello says it’s more important to love yourself than anyone else – easy enough when you look this incredible.
The Havana singer, who is dating Shawn Mendes, wore this figure-hugging white jumpsuit on stage in Miami on Wednesday as she told the crowd: “I wrote this album called Romance, which is all about falling in love.
“But the person you need to fall in love with the most, the person you need to be the most patient and loving with, is actually you.”
Danny’s new girl
THE SCRIPT’s Danny O’Donoghue has a new muse to inspire the group’s romantic songs.
The singer, who split from Brazilian model Anne De Paula last year, is keeping schtum on his lover’s name, but he explained: “We met a few months ago on the streets in London.
She was beautiful. When she had passed I snuck a look and she was looking back at me.
“We exchanged numbers and it’s going well. She’s not in the industry. She’s amazing and I’m really happy.”
Danny, who recently returned with the group’s new single The Last Time, added: “I used to meet a lot of girls in smoking areas, but since I quit I’ve had to become more imaginative.”
He’d Ad enough
ADAM Lambert finally feels he is embracing his true self musically after years of chasing a chart hit.
The US singer – who on Friday releases EP Velvet: Side A, the first in a two-part project – told me: “I wanted to carve out my own lane. I think I’ve found a more authentic spot for myself.
“It feels like I’m not reaching or trying to be anything, I’m just being me. I followed my instincts on this, I didn’t consult a committee in an office about what was good and what wasn’t good and what I should do.
“I think I’ve found a new sense of self-assuredness, which is making me feel proud of the music and really comfortable with it.”
Brothers take a dip
JONAS Brothers fans thought the group’s Instagram had been hacked when a series of photos of Diplo were uploaded to their account.
But it was just some silly teasing for a surprise collaboration they have released today, titled Lonely.
The DJ is lucky to have Joe, Kevin and Nick on the tune at all, as he nearly lost a friend in Joe in May when he live-streamed the singer’s wedding to Sophie Turner – which was meant to be secret.
Joe later said: “He ruined it . . . We just laughed, we loved it. We thought it was ridiculous.”
At least he saw the funny side.
Lewis’ bum note
LEWIS Capaldi is on the lookout for a girlfriend on Tinder, but he’s got an appreciation for the male form too.
The crooner has been using virtual reality technology in concert, and commenting on how the singer’s “peachy bum”.
He was filmed watching the video of a show shot by MelodyVR – which will go live online today. It also filmed a recent Lewis gig in Los Angeles.
Zooming in on the One Direction singer’s behind while he watched on a phone, cheeky Lewis commented: “You can get a nice view of Niall Horan’s peachy bum.
“And let me tell you, it’s never looked better.”
Kris: Angel song is hell
GETTING Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey on a tune has been a massive coup for the new Charlie’s Angels reboot – but the film’s biggest star still needs to be won over.
Kristen Stewart has said she is already sick of Don’t Call Me Angel, from the soundtrack of the film which is out here in November.
The new Angel, who was pulling faces at a glitzy bash in Los Angeles on Wednesday, above, said: “I would like everyone to stop posting that song. I can’t get away from it.”
I doubt she could do any better.
