Star Wars’ Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor signs same director as The Mandalorian, Deborah Chow – with scope for a crossover
Star Wars’ Obi-Wan Kenobi series has signed the same director as The Mandalorian – with scope for a spin-off crossover.
The Disney+ series will see Ewan McGregor reprise his role as Obi-Wan after first portraying the young Jedi in George Lucas' prequel trilogy in the early noughties.
The small screen series was confirmed at this summer's D23 Expo and filming is scheduled to begin next year.
In an announcement on the Star Wars official Instagram today, it was revealed The Mandalorian's Deborah Chow will be directing the series.
The message read: "Just announced. Deborah Chow has been tapped to direct the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series debuting exclusively on @disneyplus."
It was previously claimed the Obi-Wan series will begin eight years after the events of 2005 film Revenge of the Sith.
The movie saw Obi-Wan battle his protege Anakin Skywalker after he switched to the Dark Side before eventually becoming Darth Vader.
Meanwhile The Mandalorian will shine light on the evil roots of the First Order.
Disney+ series will explore the early origins of the dictatorship headed up by Supreme Leader Snoke in the film franchise.
The First Order rose up to succeed the Gallactic Empire after it was defeated in Return of the Jedi, and Mandalorian director Dave Filoni told fans a "good guy universe" doesn't happen overnight.
He explained to : "This doesn’t turn into a good guy universe because you blew up two Death Stars.
“You get that the Rebels won and they’re trying to establish a Republic, but there’s no way that could have set in for everybody all at once.
"You have in a Western where you’re out on the frontier and there might be Washington and they might have some marshals, but sometimes good luck finding one."

Showrunner Jon Favreau added teasingly: "Also, what could happen in the 30 years between celebrating the defeat of the Empire and then the First Order?
"You come in on Episode VII, [the First Order are] not just starting out. They’re pretty far along.
“So somehow, things weren’t necessarily managed as well as they could have been if [the galaxy] ended up in hot water again like that."
