The Ryan Murphy anthology series left fans aghast as it transpired that Montana (Billie Lourd) was in cahoots with Richard Ramirez aka The Night Stalker (Zach Villa).

With two serial killers terrorising Camp Redwood, it’s hardly surprising that the counsellors spent most of the episode attempting to escape the premises by any means possible.

The action was spiced up even further as the motives of the campers finally started to become clear.

First, Nurse Rita (Angelica Ross) came clear about her medical background, or more to the point, lack thereof.

After injecting Brooke (Emma Roberts) with horse tranquiliser, she revealed she’s not a nurse, but rather a psychology student investigating serial killers.

She even orchestrated Mr Jingles’ (John Caroll Lynch) escape from the asylum so she could study him in his natural habitat for the sake of her PHD.

Meanwhile Montana’s fate looked decidedly bleak, as she found herself cornered by Ramirez after being abandoned by Ray (Deron Horton), who rode off on a motorbike.

But as he closed in on her, and extended his arms, the pair ended up not in a grapple, but a loving embrace, complete with a smooch.

Pulling away, Montana asked: “Why haven’t you killed her yet?!”

While it remains cryptic who exactly Montana is referring too, all signs point to Brooke, who was first victimised by Ramirez in a home burglary and subsequently followed to Camp Redwood.

The twist seems especially brutal considering Montana spent the last episode reassuring Brooke she believed her when nobody else did, and had her back no matter what.

Fans of the show had a lot to say about the betrayal on social media.

“Oh SNAP Montana’s in with the Night Stalker this whole time - where’s your girl code?!” one stunned Twitter user asked.

“You really can’t trust anyone on AHS can you? I’m shook that Montana did her girl Brooke like that,” another added.

Meanwhile a third exclaimed: “THIS IS SOME BULLS**T from Montana, classic bitchy blonde move.”

The furore comes after fans previously pointed the finger at devout Christian Margaret.

Others even theorised that the series up until now was actually all just elaborate action from a horror movie set.
