Is Walter White still alive in El Camino?

Breaking Bad ended with the image of Walter White on the ground of a meth lab bleeding out from gunshot wounds.

The camera captured a smile of satisfaction come across Walter’s face while he lay motionless on the floor.

A policeman then rushed over to check his pulse as the screen cut to black and the show came to an end.

While many fans were unsure if that meant the character had actually died, the writer-director Vince Gilligan has now confirmed his fate.

Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, he admitted: “Yeah, I’m gonna give you that one, Rich, because I love you so much. Yes, Walter White is dead. Yes.”

Breaking Bad, which ran from 2008-13, focused on teacher Walter who turns to drug crime after a lung cancer diagnosis.

He enlists the help of student Jesse, with the pair becoming major players in the criminal underworld.

This time around, the follow-up film’s plotline will centre on fugitive Jesse (Aaron Paul) attempting to outrun his past.

It is a direct follow-up to the series and tracks Jesse following his escape from the Nazi group who had held him captive.
