However, Robert ended up handing himself in to the police, much to Aaron's devastation.

Next week, the character will have his day in court charged with Lee's murder, and Robert can be seen standing pensively in the dock as a distraught Aaron watches on from the gallery behind him.

But will he plead guilty to murdering Lee? Or will Aaron's plan to stop him going to prison work?

Viewers saw the character - played by Danny Miller - plot a prison break to get his husband out and back in his arms.

Things got even sadder as the couple - affectionately called Robron by fans - said their goodbyes over the prison telephone in tonight's episode.

Robert told his husband that he'd been charged with murder, leaving Aaron devastated.

Back at home, Liv, Chas and Patrick tried to comfort Aaron, but he told them to give him an hour to himself.
