Last Christmas fans predict Henry Golding’s character will be a ghost in heartbreaking twist
EARLIER this year, Christmas fanatics were ecstatic when the trailer for upcoming festive movie Last Christmas was released, with the rom-com starring Emilia Clarke and based on the music of George Michael.
However, after close analysis of the trailer fans have predicted that Henry Golding's character Tom will be a ghost in what is set to be a devastating twist.
The film, written by Dame Emma Thompson, follows Christmas shop worker Kate - who is recovering from a serious illness.
The trailer sees Kate bump into handsome Tom while she is down-on-her-luck and cynical about the Christmas period.
The two then have several more chance encounters, with Tom appearing whenever Kate needs her most.
She then confides that she was really sick the previous year and almost died, with other clips confirming that she had missed five check-up appointments since.
Eagle-eyed viewers have now guessed that there is more to Last Christmas than a fluffy love story - and the Wham! song that the movie is named after has had its lyrics interpreted literally.
The chorus sees the late George Michael croon: "Last Christmas I gave you my heart", which fans believe is a telltale clue that Tom is actually a ghost - and Kate received his heart in a transplant the previous year.
Other telltale clues include the fact that Tom only shows up suddenly in her hour of need, and at one point tells the leading lady: "It was always going to be you", with his hand on her chest.
Flocking to social media, several fans shared their theory as one wrote: "If Henry Golding isn’t Michelle Yeoh’s dead Christmas ghost son sent to teach Emilia Clarke the reason for the season in Last Christmas I will eat my f***ing hat."
Another added: "#LastChristmasMovie theory: Henry Golding is an angel, and Emilia Clarke received his heart in a transplant when she was sick. Last Christmas I gave you my heart".
A third said: "OMG, is he a ghost??? I smell an M. Night Shyamalan twist."

Unsurprisingly, the terrifying ordeal helped her to relate to Kate, telling magazine: "It was uncanny reading the script because it’s my life at this point.
"I have the benefit of having space between me and my sickness and what you see through Kate is the fear of what happens when your body fails you in some way."
Last Christmas will be released in the UK on 15 November
