CHERYL came face to face with her drag queen namesake on RuPaul's Drag Race last night and fans hailed it as "iconic".

The popstar, sitting in as a guest judge, looked delighted as Cheryl Hole, a cheeky nod to Cheryl's former surname, lip-synched to her hit Call My Name.

After, Cheryl Hole told the ex-Girls Aloud star: "I hope I did you proud" with Cheryl replying, "You did."

And unlike Geri Horner's awkward judging turn a few weeks ago, fans described Cheryl's appearance as iconic and strangely emotional.

One wrote: "I was genuinely so happy for Cheryl to meet Cheryl I cried a little bit."

A second said: "It's amazing that you were part of @DragraceukBBC! I mean how iconic is that?"

Another added: "Can Cheryl please be on #DragRaceUK every week."

Currently midway through its first run, the British spin-off of the hit US format has just been renewed for a second season.

Host RuPaul revealed he was blown away by the staggering response to the British queens doing their thing and can't wait to do it all again.

He said: "I want to thank the BBC and all our fans for their overwhelming support of RuPaul's Drag Race UK.

"This season's queens proved that Britain's Got Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, and Talent - and I want to see more!"

The format sees several drag queens competing in various challenges in order to be named Britain's Next Top Drag Superstar.

There has also been a revolving door of celebrity guest judges including Andrew Garfield, Maisie Williams, Twiggy, Geri, and Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall.

In the States, the show has run for eleven regular seasons and had several All-Stars spin-offs.

The BBC's Kate Phillips said: “The response to the current UK series has been nothing short of dragulous. Our viewers have really taken the show and the amazing queens to their hearts.

"So I’m delighted that Ru and the gang are going to shantay.  Let the search for the next group of queens begin!’

  • To apply for the next series  by Friday November 15.
