I’VE heard of abstaining from sex ahead of a boxing match but no nookie before X Factor is a new one on me.

Rugby hunk Thom Evans has sworn off sex until the end of the celebrity series because he does not want any distractions.

The former Scottish international insists he is concentrating on his band TryStar with fellow egg- chasers Ben Foden and Levis Davis despite getting plenty of offers.

In an exclusive chat, Thom said: “I have lots of men and women sliding into my DMs. I always try to reply.

“I’d never date anyone from Instagram or an app — I would prefer to meet someone in real life, to be honest. I would prefer to meet someone in the moment. I’m single and there are lots of lovely girls on X Factor but I’ve been focused on the band.

“It’s been pretty stressful learning the songs so I’ve no time to indulge in women.

“We want to go all the way. It’s never been a joke — we all want a record deal. We aren’t used to performing so we are learning.”

The winger previously dated 90210 star Jessica Lowdnes and was linked to Made In Chelsea’s Caggie Dunlop.

Single now, Thom said: “I would like to have kids and get married.

“My mum and dad have been married for 35 years and they’re still very much in love and I want that — I hope I get to experience that. I haven’t been in a relationship for two years and I came to the conclusion that next time I was in a relationship I wanted it to be for the long haul and spend the rest of your life with someone. I don’t want to rush into anything.”

Thom, 34, was forced to retire early from rugby nine years ago following a neck injury. He   suffered depression and said seeing team-mates play was “really tough”.

But he added: “I was grateful that I never ended up in a wheelchair. It was touch and go and they weren’t sure I could ever walk again.

“It was a solid year of physio and when it initially happened it didn’t look good.

“I had a therapist to talk it through with afterwards and it made such a difference in making my full recovery.

“I couldn’t have done it otherwise. Talking about it was the best and I did it for a year. More men should do it.”

He’s not wrong.

IT’S every girl’s worst nightmare.

You pick out a killer dress for a glitzy bash, hoping to be the talk of the night, then a fellow reveller turns up in exactly the same frock.

So spare a thought for former Corrie actress Helen Flanagan and Love Island’s Kady McDermott, who arrived in matching floral print dresses for  fashion store House Of CB’s Christmas party  at the  Hotel Cafe Royal in London’s  Soho.

The two women looked equally fantastic but what I would have given to be a fly on the wall when they first bumped into each other.

RON LEW’S ANGEL

RONNIE WOOD has taken rising chart superstar Lewis Capaldi under his wing after a chance meeting while recording for Jools Holland’s TV show.

The Rolling Stones icon went backstage to meet the Scot singer and ignored a “no entry” sign outside his dressing room.

Ronnie, who was talking to me at a launch event for posh watches he has designed for Bremont, said: “He was terrific, a real talent, and he’s totally got his head screwed on – he just needs to keep away from any of the temptations as that’s when it starts to go downhill.”

The former hellraiser added: “I told him he could get in touch with me for advice or a chat any time –  I’m always available.”

CHRISTMAS is here, as far as Gwen Stefani is concerned.

Posing for snappers, she  sported a tinsel-style dress with fishnets at a festive bash   in New York. The Hollaback Girl singer belted out You Make It Feel Like Christmas before changing into a silver sparkly jacket and matching boots.

It’s still a little too early for me to get in the festive mood.

Taylor steps up Braun bashing

TAYLOR SWIFT has reignited her feud with Scooter Braun, claiming in a tweet that he’s banned her from performing a medley of her old hits at the American Music Awards this month.

It came after she hit out at Scooter, who manages Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande – when he bought Big Machine Records, which was Taylor’s label for her first six albums.

In a swipe at Scooter and Big Machine founder Scott Borchetta earlier this week she said: “The message being sent to me is very clear. Basically, be a good little girl and shut up. Or you’ll be punished.

“This is WRONG.  Neither of these men had a hand in the writing of those songs.”

She then called  on her followers, saying: “Please let Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun know how you feel about this”.

Big Machine then denied stopping her singing the songs and claimed she owes the firm millions of dollars.

In turn, Taylor’s team quoted a Big Machine email saying it would “not agree to issue licences” for the songs.

Xmas No1 hope  for hero James

JAMES Blunt may be rewarded for his goodwill gesture of donating all the proceeds from his new single to charity. Bookies have now slashed the odds of the singer landing the Christmas No1.

BoyleSports (no relation) had him at 12/1 but after my story about him giving all the profits from  Monsters to Armed Forces charity Help for Heroes, they now have him at 5/1. The ex-soldier teamed up with The Sun as well as Virgin Radio,  performing live on Chris Evans’ breakfast show for Bizarre’s Back Blunty  campaign, calling on our loyal readers to buy the single  for a brilliant cause.

Chris said: “We LOVE James Blunt’s Monsters, and  thank him and his record company for working with The Sun in supporting two great charities.”

The good news may  continue for James, as he revealed yesterday  a match has come forward for his dad’s liver transplant. It’s good karma.

LIAM GALLAGHER has said sorry to a poor fan who had urine lobbed at him at one of his gigs.  He tweeted: “I’d like to apologise to the guy who had wee thrown over him at the Cardiff gig – that’s a proper p*** take that. No need, c’mon you know.” He added: “I’ve had plenty of p*** thrown at me,  trust me.”

TOM HANKS says the Judy Garland biopic should have depicted more of her life’s bad points. Citing two of the icon’s films, he told Renee Zellweger, who plays the lead in Judy:   “I was disappointed we didn’t  see you recreate moments from The Harvey Girls or Meet Me in St Louis, where   she had that negative self-image.”

ACTOR CHRISTIAN NAVARRO has slammed Disney after losing out to Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric in   The Little Mermaid remake. The 13 Reasons Why star, who is of Puerto Rican descent, tweeted: “Literally @disney saw a who’s who list of actors of colour and STILL went with the white guy.”

KEANU REEVES makes a bizarre appearance in the new SpongeBob movie, Sponge On The Run,   as the face of a tumbleweed. In a trailer for the flick, set for release next May, the actor says: “Hello. Call me Sage. I’m made out of sage and I am a sage, so it works out pretty well.”
