The Apprentice faces new racism row after Lord Sugar told Venezuelan contestant: ‘No wonder your country is in a state’
LORD Sugar has been caught up in a new Apprentice racism row involving Venezuelan Jemelin Artigas.
He is said to have told her in a cut scene: “No wonder your country is in a state. It’s because it’s full of people like you.”
The tycoon was referring to economic turmoil ravaging Venezuela.
But an insider on the BBC1 show said: “Children are dying of hunger in her country.
"She felt it was unfair for it to be used against her.
“She felt bullied and picked out because she is an immigrant.
“Contestants were saying how Lord Sugar never talked to Lottie Lion or Ryan-Mark Parsons like that.
"Jemelin felt it was like a freak show. She went to a psychologist who said she was likely to walk if not fired.”
Lord Sugar’s jibe is said to have been made after the week five task.
Jemelin’s exit after last week’s Finland trip means six of the seven axed contestants have been non-white.

Last month, we told how bosses investigated claims that Lottie told rival Lubna Farhan: “Shut up, Gandhi” in a WhatsApp row.
After her exit, Jemelin, 35, said she did not think Lord Sugar was racist but could understand why fans might accuse the show of racism.
But she said his Venezuela jibe was “the moment I didn’t see myself as his business partner any longer”.
