LOOSE Women star Gloria Hunniford has revealed she was in talks to take part in this year's series of I'm A Celebrity.

The 79-year-old would have been the oldest contestant ever; Stanley Johnson was previously the eldest camp mate when he entered the jungle at the age of 77.

However, Gloria admitted she decided to turn the show down after realising exactly what she'd be in for.

"Well this year... I had to have meetings with the producers and the editor," she said.

"In one way I wanted to challenge myself, but when they were really honest with me and told me what it was like, I thought 'well, I'm allergic to mosquitoes really badly, I'm a hospital case with that'.

"I could do without the food I think... I don't think I could do all the picking up of wood with my dodgy knee," she went on to explain on Loose Women yesterday.

"I don't think I could do the snake bit, and I certainly couldn't eat a pig's brain."

So far this series has seen the celebrities jump out of helicopters and walk a plank situated at the top of a 334-foot tower block.

The jungle hopefuls were also left subjected to a torrential downpour, hail, thunder and lightening on their first night in the camp.

The 19th series of the show kicked off on November 17 and saw the likes of Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle, former England rugby star James Haskell and radio presenter Adele Roberts enter the camp with the hope of being crowned king or queen of the jungle.

On Monday fans saw Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway and Olympian-turned-reality star Caitlyn Jenner face the first Bushtucker Trial of the series.

Ant McPartlin reveals I'm A Celebrity stars were FURIOUS behind the scenes after being told they had to swim in first task

Kate and Caitlyn went head-to-head in a Bushtucker Trial called Buggered Off which saw them suspended in a box 20 metres up in the air.

They then had to endue hundreds of critters being poured over their heads – plus a load of rats – while they tried to drop balls into a moving basket below them.

Caitlyn seemed cool as a cucumber while Kate screamed her head off, although they both only ended up getting two stars each for their camps.

But Caitlyn, 70, sparked fears that she may be the first camper to ask to leave the jungle as she broke down in tears at 1am in the morning.

“Being the first night in the jungle my head was spinning," she said.

"I’m kinda trying to figure out if I’m doing the right thing. I’m 70 years old now and is being in here the right way to use my time.

"Should I be home with my kids, playing with the grandchildren.

"I’ve never quit at anything I’ve ever done and I’m thinking maybe it’s time I learned how to do that.”
