DEJA WHO?

The Walking Dead fans rage about Lydia ‘plot hole’ as she fails to recognise Whisperer agent Dante

THIS week’s brutal twist on The Walking Dead has ruffled feathers with fans for more than one reason.

Viewers were devastated as Siddiq was brutally strangled to death after discovering that Dante was in fact working for The Whisperers and poisoning Alexandrians.

The doctor’s PTSD flashbacks lead to him remembering Dante’s face at the mass beheadings orchestrated by Alpha and the double agent was determined to keep his secret hidden, no matter the cost.

However, many fans were quick to questions how Dante had remained under cover considering that Lydia, who defected from the mask-wearing faction, also resided in Alexandria.

Lydia was formerly a major player among The Whisperers as the only child of leader Alpha and the show regularly references how tight knit the group is, working as one to blend in with the undead and survive in the forest.

It didn’t take long for social media to be lit up with questions as fans claimed there had been a major oversight when it came to Dante’s fake identity.

Dante strangled Siddiq after he recognised him as a Whisperer

“I’m still trying to figure out how Lydia didn’t recognise Dante but knew right away who the prisoner was,” one Twitter user mused.

“Please explain the ridiculous idea of Lydia not knowing Dante as a Whisperer but knew who the random guy who walks with the horde! Love to hear it,” another added.

A third echoed: “Wait, how didn't Lydia recognise Dante? She recognised their prisoner when they were bringing him in and it was obvious he knew who she was.”

However, show bosses later cleared things up in the teaser clip for next week’s episode.

In a flashback between Alpha and Dante, the femme fatale explains that she needs him to serve as “her eyes and ears inside their walls.”

Insisting that the plan couldn’t fail, she elaborates: "My daughter doesn't know you."

Mystery solved folks – while it might seem unlikely, clearly Lydia wasn’t familiar with the entire tribe.

Alternatively, Dante could’ve been recruited after Lydia moved to Alexandria, or have simply been masked whenever she encountered him previously.

Elsewhere in the teaser clip, Carol teases plans to use Dante to get at Alpha, while Judith is seen cutting down a prisoner on the run from Michonne.
