The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder makes grisly TV comeback as slayer in Netflix’s V Wars trailer
THE Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder is making a grisly TV comeback as a slayer in Netflix’s V Wars.
In the first official trailer for the series, Ian is seen as Dr Luther Swann, a scientist left horrified when a mysterious disease turns his best friend Fayne into a vampire.
The synopsis for the 10-episode series reads: “As the disease spreads and more people are transformed, society fractures into opposing camps pitting normal people against the growing number of these ‘vampires’.
“Swann races against time to understand what’s happening, while Fayne rises to become the powerful underground leader of the vampires.”
The series is based on the best-selling IDW graphic novels by Jonathan Maberry.
It also stars Smallville’s Laura Vandervoort, Jacky Lai, Kyle Breitkopf and Kimberly-Sue Murray from Crimson Peak.
Back in August, Ian, 40, gave fans a first glimpse at his new character in an Instagram post.
Wearing his doctors coat and glasses, Ian stared moodily into the camera, his hand and knuckles covered in blood and cuts.
He wrote alongside it: “Here he is… @drlutherswannofficial aka Dr Luther Swann. Would you trust this man?”
Ian’s new role comes after he played vampire Damon Salvatore in the hit supernatural teen drama The Vampire Diaries for eight years.
The CW series came to an end in March 2017 after eight seasons.
Ian is also well known for his role in hit ABC serise Lost, where he played Boone Carlyle, the first of the main cast members to be killed off at the end of series one.
V Wars premieres on Netflix on December 5th.
