The Big Bang Theory fans fume over Penny plot hole as she forgets her own dad’s name
WHILE The Big Bang Theory may have come to an end last year, fan’s grievances with the sitcom certainly have not.
The CBS show ran for a whopping 12 seasons and garnered a huge global fan base over the course of its run, but following its arrival on streaming giant Netflix it has found itself under the microscope.
The character of Penny has always courted an element of intrigue due to the fact viewers never find out her family name.
She ends up taking Leonard’s surname, Hofstadter, when she marries him, but that’s as much as we know.
However, it was Penny’s father’s name that has ruffled feathers among fans, who spotted a continuity error spanning multiple seasons.
In the episode The Maternal Congruence, Leonard’s mother comes to visit and meet Penny.
When he asks about Penny’s parents, she claims her dad is called Bob.
However, in subsequent series she refers to him as Wyatt, seemingly forgetting the birth name of her own parent.
Suffice to say the faux pas didn’t go unnoticed on social media.
Drawing attention to the gaffe, one Reddit user wrote: “I hate to be that guy but I can’t be the only one who noticed that Penny’s dad’s name changes from one season to the next.
“Is it Bob or is it Wyatt? I’m not exactly son of the year but at least I know my folks’ names!”
The post received hundreds or upvotes, with other chipping in to echo the sense of outrage.

“I clocked that too! Lol the writers’ definitely forgot,” one like-minded person wrote.
While another added: “Such a weird thing to overlook, how did Kaley [Cuoco, who plays Penny] not realise it either?”
It’s not the first gaffe to catch fan’s attention in recent weeks.
Elsewhere, Sheldon seemed to abandon his famous spot on the sofa in the sitcom’s promotional posters.
The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on Netflix.
