Black Widow trailer – Marvel fans go wild as Scarlett Johansson FINALLY gets her own spin-off film
MARVEL fans have been left buzzing after the movie studio dropped the first trailer for Scarlett Johansson's Avengers spin-off Black Widow.
The film, which will only be Marvel's second female-led movie in 11 years, has been directed by Cate Shortland, and will focus on the time period between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.
Civil War saw Scarlett's Natasha Romanoff go on the run after defying the authorities and helping Captain America/Steve Rogers escape at the airport.
This trailer now reveals she returned to her homeland of Russia, where she reunited with her "sister" Yelena and family after admitting she is "done running from her past".
In a voiceover, Natasha tells viewers: "I used to have nothing, and then I got this job and this family, but nothing lasts forever."
We then see her attack Yelena, proving there is bad blood between the pair, before they talk and she reveals she has returned home due to "unfinished business".
Stranger Things star David Harbour and Rachel Weisz also appear as Natasha reunites with her "family", and lighthearted relief comes as David's character attempts to fit back into his old superhero costume.
Yelena was introduced to the Marvel comics in 1999, becoming the second female character to take on the Black Widow codename.
Originally a foe for Natasha, Yelena was trained at the Red Room – where Natasha was trained – but the pair soon became allies.
The Red Room, also known as the Black Widow Program, was a top-secret Soviet brainwashing and training program, which took young women and turned them into elite assassins.
The trailer appears to reveal that much of the film will focus on this programme, as we also see young girls training together in unison in a red room.
Black Widow will be released in cinemas in May 2020.
