A NEW trailer for Top Gun Maverick sees Tom Cruise back in the Danger Zone as he pulls off a series of terrifying plane stunts.
The dramatic clip opens with Cruise – who has reprised his role as Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell for the hugely anticipated sequel 33 years after the 1986 blockbuster - skimming over snow-capped mountains.
It is then revealed he has been summoned back to train the latest batch of Top Gun graduates for a special mission - and he looks to have lost none of his recklessness.
Among those he's mentoring is Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: Rooster, the son of Maverick’s late friend Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka Goose.
Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.
In the 1986 film, Maverick flew a Grumman F-14 Tomcat but climbs into the cockpit of a new fighter in this film, which makes it debut in the trailer.
The fighter – a F/A-18F Super Hornet, boasts increased agility and speed.
But fans are even more excited by a mysterious 'space plane' which appears in the final seconds of the trailer, before Tom is seen wearing a helmet closer to an astronauts than his usual uniform.
Val Kilmer has reprised his role as Tom 'Iceman' Kazansky in the sequel, which also stars Jon Hamm, Lewis Pullman and Charles Parnell.
Yesterday Tom Cruise has gave fans a sneak peek as he shared the movie poster.
