Football star AJ McCarron’s model wife Katherine Webb claims she ‘quit’ fame to become a mom
KATHERINE Webb has told how her Hollywood career had only just begun when the former model “gave it all up" to start a family with her football star husband AJ McCarron.
The 2012 Miss Alabama USA, 30, said she hated fame and quit the entertainment business to marry Houston Texans quarterback A.J. McCarron, 29, in 2014.
She became a sensation overnight after being featured in a viral clip of sportscaster Brett Musburger, 80, marveling at the brunette beauty’s looks during an ESPN broadcast of her then-boyfriends Alabama-Notre Dame National Championship Game.
The camera panned to the NFL superstar’s now-wife who watched the 2013 championships from the audience when Brett said “Wow I'm telling ya, you quarterbacks, you get all the good-looking women!”
“What a beautiful woman!” he continued in disbelief.
On the 7-year anniversary of her newfound attention, the mother-of-two reflected on Instagram about the sudden rise to fame - and how happy she is that she gave everything up following the infamous video.
“I quit “Hollywood” shortly after bc I realized I genuinely hated being “famous” and having my personal life out there so much” she confessed.
“I gave it all up to marry my forever love and have my boys and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.”
Before she gave birth to sons Tripp, 3, and Cash, 1, the beauty queen was on a roll and accomplished a variety of career achievements.
She “fulfilled a dream” of being featured in the 2013 edition of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue and got tapped to cover the Super Bowl for Inside Edition that same year.
Despite the incredible opportunity, Katherine said she was “not able to do my job as well as I wanted to then” due to the constant attention and interest surrounding her even while she reported on the field.
After the video was seen around the world, many called out the then 73-year-old broadcaster for his “sexist” comments and an ESPN spokesperson issued a formal apology quickly following.
However, the Carl’s Jr. commercial star said she was not offended by the comments and did not think an apology was necessary.
”I think the media has been really unfair to him… I think that if he would have said… that we were hot or sexy or made any derogatory statements like that, I think that would have been a little bit different” she told disgraced The Today Show anchor Matt Lauer at the time.
"But the fact that he said we were beautiful and gorgeous, I don't see why any woman wouldn't be flattered by that.”
The family has lived all over the country due to A.J. being traded by different teams and currently reside in Houston where the athlete is under a one year contract with the Texans.
