Justin Bieber reveals he’s ‘battling Lyme disease’ amid depression struggle
JUSTIN Bieber has revealed he’s been secretly battling Lyme disease in a new docuseries.
The 25-year-old star opened up about how the disease took a toll on him for almost a year in the still-unreleased show, according to TMZ.
In the docuseries, he says that last year doctors diagnosed Lyme disease from his symptoms, which include rashes, fever, headaches and exhaustion.
He also reveals in the new YouTube program, out January 27, the illness caused him to be extremely depressed.
Justin opened up about his mental health struggles on social media in March.
He said: “Just wanted to keep you guys updated a little bit hopefully what I’m going through will resonate with you guys.
“Been struggling a lot. Just feeling super disconnected and weird.”
His illness came as Justin and supermodel married in September, after first exchanging vows in a New York City court house in 2018.
Hailey’s friend Bella Hadid, along with her mother Yolanda, Shania Twain and Avril Lavigne also suffer from the disease.
Justin was recently spotted with an IV in his arm.
Fans apparently thought it was just a vitamin drip, but TMZ reported it was medicine to treat the disease.
Before being diagnosed doctors reportedly prescribed him lots of different medicines, one of which caused him to have skin breakouts.
Lyme disease: the facts
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection, spread by ticks.
Most ticks aren’t infected, but those which are can be found all over Britain – most often in grassy woodland areas in southern England and the Scottish Highlands.
A bullseye like rash around the bite, lasting several weeks, is the most common sign of infection. But not everyone gets the rash. Other symptoms can include fever, headache, joint pain and persistent tiredness.
It’s not common, so is often missed by doctors.
Some sufferers continue to have symptoms, like tiredness, aches and loss of energy, for several years.
There is a link between Lyme Disease and both tinnitus and noise sensitivity, but complete loss of hearing like Danielle is very rare.
To reduce the risk of being bitten, cover your skin while walking outdoors, use insect repellent and stick to paths wherever possible.
TMZ reported no one knows how Justin exactly how he got the disease, which is contracted through a tick bite.
Now that the Yummy singer is on the mend, he said in the doc that he’s ready to drop his new album and then go out on tour.
Apparently the recent delays in releasing new music were the result of health concerns.
