EastEnders’ Shona McGarty splits from fiance Ryan Harris after 18 month engagement

EASTENDERS star Shona McGarty has split from her fiance Ryan Harris after an 18 month engagement.

The actress, 28, - who plays Whitney Dean in the BBC soap - has revealed she is now single after things didn't work out with the electrician.

Shona and Ryan called off their engagement last year
: "We just grew apart. Nothing bad happened, it was all very amicable. We were together for a long time, but it just wasn't meant to be."

Shona also revealed how despite splitting last year she is not ready to move on just yet.

"I'm not ready to date anyone else at the moment and I think it's really important to have some time by yourself," she added.

"As I've got older it's refreshing because I no longer care what people think of me any more. I'm definitely older and wiser.

Shona, who also dated her co-star Matt Lapinskas in 2012, said she was in a "good place" now she's single.

She said: "I feel great. I'm 28 and I'm in a good place. I'm enjoying spending time with my family, especially my sister.

"She's got two boys and I get to spend a lot of time with them. I'm also looking forward to having a girls' holiday! I'm certainly looking forward and not back. I just want to live my life, focus on work and have some fun."
