The stars who snubbed the NTAs from furious Piers Morgan to Cheryl and no-show Simon Cowell
CAMERAS might have been trained on the huge stars walking the red carpet at the NTAs last night - but that hid the fact lots of big names snubbed the bash.
Plenty of telly heavyweights swerved the awards - from Piers Morgan, who was drinking on his sofa, to Simon Cowell, who sloped off to a meeting.
Here, we look at the telly heavyweights who failed to show up this year - and the better things they might have been doing.
Were you busy washing your hair, guys?
Piers Morgan
Big-mouth Piers made no secret of what he was doing when the NTAs were on - hate-tweeting his way through them from home.
The 54-year-old Good Morning Britain host was staging a one-man protest at the fact This Morning were set to win from the comfort of his sofa.
Getting stuck into a cheese board and a "very pleasing" bottle of £350-a-go Chateau Pédesclaux Pauillac red wine, he tore into the awards on Twitter.
Top of his hit list was host and fellow ITV star David Walliams, who he taunted throughout the show, branding him a "massive d**khead".
Simon Cowell
X Factor boss Simon failed to show up, heading off to a string of late-night meetings instead.
A source told The Sun Online the star originally turned down his invitation because he was due to be out of the country but in the end had some important business to attend to elsewhere anyway.
That sadly meant he had to avoid David Walliams' bizarre send-up off him in a totally open white shirt, grey wig and huge aviator shades.
So we do understand why the 60-year-old might have found himself with something else to do.
Cheryl
Greatest Dancer judge Cheryl Tweedy was once an NTA regular, popping up at the O2 Arena like clockwork.
In recent years though, the 36-year-old star has given the event a wide berth, swerving it every year since 2011.
Perhaps that's understandable given she A. Has a young child at home. B. Wasn't nominated in any of the categories.
However, she was represented at the event by her biggest fan, drag queen Cheryl Hole.
Rylan Clark-Neal
You can barely switch on a TV these days without seeing Rylan staring back out at you - so it was a surprise that he'd swerved the telly awards.
The 31-year-old Supermarket Sweep host instead ran round his garden to a jaunty soundtrack pointing out where moles had invaded his lawn.
He then put on a wig and strutted around miming to Gemma Collins comments.
All in all, it was more entertaining than a lot of the material at the awards itself.
Alesha Dixon
It wasn't just Simon Cowell who was a no-show from Britain's Got Talent - Alesha didn't turn up either.
Instead, she was furiously plugging America's Got Talent, where she is now a judge.
She posted a video of her pressing her golden buzzer for a group of silhouette dancers.
Sadly, that meant she too didn't get to see David Walliams' impression of her, instead posting a shot of her next to a shiny background writing: "Golden wall for a golden night!"
Noel Fielding
Bake Off host Noel failed to turn up to help collect the baking hit's award, insisting: "I was attacked by a baboon."
He tweeted: "Congrats to all the ‘Bake off’ team! Everyone at love productions and all the bakers and Sandi and Prue and Paul and channel four!
"Sorry I couldn’t be there. I was attacked by a baboon x."
Well, at least he gave an excuse.
Amanda Holden
Completing the BGT no-show set, Amanda also failed to show up - ensuring she was feeling fresh for her Heart radio show this morning.
However, she did prove there were no hard feelings about David's portrayal of her in a wig, pink dress and pearls.
She posting the picture, with the hashtag: "#nofilter."
