TOM Cruise has been mocked for his intense heavy breathing in Super Bowl’s Top Gun: Maverick trailer.
The 57-year-old actor resumes his role Pete Maverick Mitchell in the long-awaited sequel to the hit 1986 film.
During Sunday's Super Bowl 54, a tense new trailer for the sequel aired, showing Maverick struggling to breath as he flies through the skies while various voiceovers set up the plot.
But viewers couldn't help mocking Tom's Darth Vader-esque breathing on Twitter.
One wrote: "So Top Gun Maverick is like Gravity. The lead character breathing heavy into a mask for two hours."
Another added: "If the commercial is any indication Top Gun 2 appears to be 2 hours of Tom Cruise moaning and breathing really heavy."
A third tweeted: "As far as I can gather from these Super bowl commercials.. Top Gun 2 is about Tom Cruise breathing heavily."
Top Gun: Maverick wasn't the only trailer to air during the Super Bowl last night, as fans also got a glimpse of the next Disney live action film, Mulan, and three of the highly anticipated Disney+ Marvel shows including Loki and WandaVision.
Many viewers watching spotted a link between Mulan and Maverick, with one writing on Twitter: "Why did the Mulan commercial have the same weird stylised breathing motif that the Top Gun: Maverick trailer had?"
Another added: "So far with the Top Gun and Mulan ads, the new way to advertise movies is to fill it with heavy breathing."
